Our wine Naturwunder Weingut

A stage on which nature shows its full potential: The winery with its picture-book panorama is enthroned in a fabulous single location, surrounded by 33 hectares of contiguous vineyards.

Different soil formations, altitude metres, orientation, steepness and microclimates come together here and are characteristic of wines that conjure up the essence of southern Styria in every bottle. One highlight: the main ridge that divides our vineyards into two local wine regions. While the Gamlitz side drains into the Mur, the water on the Leutschach side flows into the Drau towards Slovenia. The high-lying vineyards are always above the ground – the result? Wines that are just as clear and full of character as the view from the very top.

Our
future
vision

With a watchful eye on tomorrow, we combine tradition and innovation to sustainably preserve the beauty of southern Styria. Our goal? Wines that tell stories, hospitality that wins hearts and a connection to nature that endures. The future belongs to those who shape it with passion – and that’s exactly what we do.

Sustainable
Winepioneers

For us, sustainability is not just on the label, but also at the centre of our daily activities. What exactly does that mean? We are rethinking wine – ecologically, economically and socially. We produce with the utmost respect for the environment and posterity, do without various chemical aids and think ahead – with renewable energy, careful soil cultivation and a clear focus on conserving resources. Fair working conditions and responsible business management are just as important to us as striving for the best wines.

We set an example with the “Sustainable Austria” seal of quality: From the cultivation of the vines to the ageing of the wines and bottling, the entire production process is scrutinised for its contribution to sustainability. Only if all requirements are met can a winegrower label his wines with the seal of quality. We can proudly represent these ethical values and responsible behaviour 100% – that is our sustainability promise.

A sip says more
than 1000 words
Our wines

Strength lies in tranquillity. Our wines are not produced in a rush, but in harmony with nature. Harvested 100% by hand, refined with technical know-how and perfected with a great deal of patience. Time is not money here, but a luxury that we give to each of our creations. We know our 158,000 vines almost by their first names.

The final wines – true originals that know how to translate the essence of southern Styria with every sip thanks to mature craftsmanship. Clear varietal stylistics, multi-layered in their flavours, pleasantly moderate in acidity and with just the right amount of alcohol – so that enjoyment always remains in the foreground. In short, our wines are not everyday heroes, but genuine adventures in pleasure with a guarantee of an award. Year after year, we not only delight wine lovers, but also international juries: top ratings and glittering awards adorn our path and continue to spur us on to produce first-class wines that unmistakably express the specialities of Southern Styria.

A soil that characterises wines full of character

Our soils are the true foundation of our wines. At an altitude of up to almost 600 metres above sea level, we benefit from a unique combination of diverse soil types and ideal climatic conditions. The approximately 33 hectares of vineyards provide the perfect basis for sustainable viticulture. Particularly noteworthy is the local vineyard boundary that separates Gamlitz and Leutschach and divides the vineyard into two different terroirs.

Thanks to these natural conditions, we are able to produce a wide range of wines – from classic regional and regional wines to local and vineyard wines with a DAC reference. This diversity is not only appreciated by us, but also regularly honoured by national and international wine competitions and journalists.

Our floors

Local wine Boden Gamlitz

Our Gamlitz wines thrive on sand and gravel soils, which give them their special minerality. In the eastern area, there are also occasional calcareous marl soils that provide additional complexity. Two idyllic streams, the Steinbachgraben and the Kranachgraben, characterise the microclimate. ¬The sheltered basin locations favour particularly ripe fruit aromas, while the cooler locations above 500 metres above sea level produce subtle vegetal nuances. The characteristic varieties of the Gamlitz local wine are the refreshing Sauvignon Blanc and the aromatic Muscatel.

Local wine Boden Leutschach

The wines with the place name Leutschach grow on rich limestone marl soils, also known as Opok, which are partly interspersed with sandbanks. These vineyards are among the most southerly in Styria and benefit from the south-facing basin sites, some of which rise steeply. The unique terroir gives the wines a strong, juicy structure. The leading varieties are Sauvignon Blanc and Muskateller, but also varieties from the Burgundy family in particular, which perfectly reflect the typical characteristics of these vineyards.

Lubekogel vineyard

The “upper slope” of the vineyard here in the municipality of Gamlitz, the “lower slope” in Leutschach. The vineyards slope steeply to the south and south-east. The high location ensures later ripening of the grapes, especially the Sauvignon Blanc, and promotes the variety of flavours. The windy location prevents dew formation and promotes the health of the vines. The soil consists of 15 million year old, partly calcareous sands, sandstones, gravels and conglomerates. In the northern part there is a lime-free loose sediment brown earth, in the south a rigol soil of sandstone. The name “Lubekogel” comes from the small settlement of Lube, which was recorded in the Franziszeische Land Register as early as 1824.

Riede Oberglanzberg

As the name suggests, the Oberglanzberg vineyard lies directly above the Oberglanz. There is no autumn fog here, as the site is more open to the wind and well ventilated. The soil itself is more strongly mixed with blue opok, with layers of sand providing excellent water drainage. The site is purely south-facing and was already marked on historical maps as Oberglanzberg. Inclusions from the gravel-conglomerate soil of the neighbouring and even higher situated Lubekogel vineyard are already visible on the upper ridge.
