Sauvignon blanc Ried Oberglanzberg Südsteiermark DAC 2023 Magnum

In the glass, the wine displays a sparkling straw-yellow color with high viscosity and a dense structure. On the nose, a complex interplay of aromas unfolds, featuring cassis, yellow and red bell peppers, and subtle honey notes. The aromas are ripe, multi-layered, and very precise. On the palate, this single-vineyard Sauvignon delights with pronounced fruitiness (ripe stone fruits and black currants), spice, and minerality. The athletic body lends the wine power and structure, while the fine acidity provides balance. The finish is long, powerful, and lingering—a great Sauvignon with depth and aging potential.

Year & vinification

Year:
Spring began very dry, with alternating cool and warm spells, causing budbreak to start relatively late, toward the end of April—fortunately without any damage from late frosts. During and after flowering, sporadic rainfall led to severe fungal pressure. July and August proved to be very mixed, and at the end of August, renewed rainfall created additional challenges. Nevertheless, the vintage ripened perfectly, allowing the main harvest to take place between late September and early October. The result is a vintage with pronounced aromas, a slightly lower alcohol content, and a distinctly smooth character.

Vinification:
Aged and matured for 24 months on the fine lees in large, used wooden barrels
